What Is the Top Speed Of The Can-Am Renegade?

The Can-Am Renegade is among the wildest and most exhilarating ATVs you can swing a leg over. However, these machines’ engine control unit (ECU) or engine control module (ECM) has a 78 MPH limit, so the top speed is usually below that figure. You need a Can-Am Digitally Encoded Security System key to start the engine.

The rig comes with a performance key, but if you feel inclined to let a less experienced rider try out your Renegade, you can also get a “regular” key that lowers the top speed to 43 mph and modifies the power delivery. The Eco mode also makes it easier to modulate the throttle by lowering the top speed to 43 mph throughout the throttle throw.

How To Boost The Can-Am Renegade’s Top Speed and Acceleration

The horsepower, drivetrain, weight of the passengers and baggage, the terrain, the weather, the altitude you ride at, and the accessories on your vehicle are just a few of the variables that determine your Renegades’s peak speed.

By ramping up the engine and engine related parts, the Renegade will definitely reach a higher top speed.

If you still have factory warranty on your ATV, I advise against ramping it up. Making changes to your Can-Am could void the warranty, meaning if you run into any major issues, you’ll likely have to pay for those yourself. So, first check your warranty before you make the alterations.

You can boost the engine output and top speed of your Renegade. However, keep in mind that the ATV is not designed for this, which can cause more wear and tear, resulting in more frequent maintenance.

There are several ways to make your Renegade faster, (but remember, this is at your own risk) including:

1. Use Higher Octane Fuel

Simple and quick ways to increase the speed of your Renegade include switching to a higher-octane fuel. Use fuel with a higher-octane level to increase the performance of your engine. As a result of the fuel’s more complete burn, your fuel system’s mechanical components experience less corrosion and are more fuel-efficient.

Even if the improved mileage isn’t immediately noticeable, you will still notice performance differences. Even if it costs slightly more than conventional fuel, you will notice the difference when you hit the accelerator. Many ATV owners decide to increase the octane level in their fuel on their own because they want a stronger boost than what is available at a gas station.

You may stir it in by adding a small amount to the gas in your Renegade. You can also pre-mix it in a gas can and then pour it into the gas tank to ensure that your measurements are exact.

2. Tune the ECU

The Can-Am Renegade’s ECM controls its top speed. An ECU tune-up can greatly enhance your Renegade’s performance. Your bike’s speed will rise dramatically, and it is inexpensive. The speed limits, the RPM, and the power can all be increased by reflashing or remapping the ECU.

You can also disable the speed limits with an aftermarket ECU flash. You may increase the top speed on your Can-Am Renegade by either installing an ECU tuner, so you can make the required modifications, or having the ECU tuned by professionals. Furthermore, you can alter features like the speed and rpm limitations by connecting an ECU tuner to your bike’s electrical system.

Some ATV riders change the radiator fan’s temperature setting to on/off to keep the engine temperature low. Also, to control the amount of gasoline delivered at certain RPMs and advance the timing, you may change the fuel curve and ignition timing. It can greatly enhance acceleration and throttle responsiveness.

There are many hazards associated with an ECU tune-up. So, to avoid injuring your Renegade, you need to get an expert to perform the installation. An expert tune-up might cost around $400.

3. Aftermarket Clutch Kit

A clutch upgrade can help you to improve your Can-Am Renegade’s top speed and acceleration. The right upgrade could increase your peak speed and acceleration, while the package modifies your RPM curve to enhance your optimum power. Several clutch kits come with new springs and weights that alter the timing and speed of the clutch’s self-adjustment.

Adapting clutch kits to various riding styles, riding conditions, and engine changes is simple. An advantage of a clutch kit is that it improves acceleration and throttle response, increases top speeds, torque, and power, and reduces belt slippage and heat buildup, increasing belt life. Aftermarket Can-Am Renegade clutch kits are available for under $450.

4. Get High-Flow Air Filters

Your air filter needs to be checked and cleaned frequently. Your engine will choke or suffocate while driving if your air filter is obstructed, which reduces the amount of air that can reach the engine. A high-flow air filter can also replace the factory air filter. For decades, K&N has produced some of the best air filters for virtually every Powersports or automotive application.

The improved intake allows for increased airflow to the engine, and more air-fuel mixture equates to more power. That is among the simplest methods for improving the performance of your system. You can get a K&N high-flow air filter from around $29.87 upward.

5. Fit an Aftermarket Exhaust

Although the Can-Am Renegade exhaust upgrade might be time-consuming, it is a popular way to boost your quad’s performance. The engine can draw more air because it can expel more air. This setup is more effective when paired with a high-flow air intake system.

A performance slip-on exhaust is an excellent substitute if you cannot replace the full exhaust system, starting with the headers. The slip-on muffler method is the most commonly used because it allows you to swap out your factory muffler for a frequently lighter one. Also, compared to the significantly baffled stock systems, these systems’ cores offer far higher exhaust flow rates.

The performance slip-on exhaust gives you extra power, but less than a full-performance system. Think about combining the slip-on or full exhaust with a high-flow intake system for more powerful performance.

Performance exhaust systems typically resemble cones and steadily increase in size or diameter over stock exhaust systems. It allows more air to pass through the engine. The richer air-fuel mixture results in an increase in both power and speed. You purchase a Renegade Slip-on muffler for around $329.96 upward.

6. Tune the Fuel Injection

To maximize your engine’s performance, you should improve the fuel delivery after upgrading the intake, exhaust, or both. You will require expert fuel injection systems programmers to improve your fuel system. Dynojet first developed fuel injection systems for power sports vehicles.

Power Commander V, a popular Dynojet gadget, can be integrated into the wiring harness that runs through your ATV. It helps to regulate fuel delivery precisely to your engine so that it produces the maximum amount of power. It costs $455.66 to purchase a Power Commander V tuner for a Can-Am Renegade.

7. Adjust the Valves

You can slightly extend the valve opening time, increase power, and achieve higher RPM if you adjust them to a narrower clearance within the range suggested by the manufacturer. Increased clearance allows the engine to produce more power at lower RPMs.

8. Fit a Nitrous Kit

You may increase the speed of your Can-Am Renegade by installing a nitrous kit. Several nitrous settings exist, including wet and dry configurations. Choose a location where you feel secure. Because the kits are easy to install or use, many ATV riders use them to boost speed.

9. Install a Big Bore Kit

A big bore kit installation might result in a noticeable performance boost. It will increase both the top speed and the acceleration. It is because you are essentially increasing the cubic capacity of your Renegade’s engine.

So, you swap out the piston and cylinder for larger diameters with most larger bore kits. Your Renegade will operate more efficiently as more air, fuel, and mixture enter the combustion chamber. You may purchase a Can-Am Renegade big bore cylinder kit for $899.99 and above.

10. Use the Correct Tire Size, Weight, and Pressure

You can choose a larger tire to reach a higher top speed. Get a larger tire if you wish to accelerate more quickly. Bigger tires have a greater turning radius, but go longer per revolution. Tire pressure could have an impact on performance depending on the surface. A lower tire pressure makes riding through sand or snow faster, whereas a greater tire pressure works better on flat, hard surfaces.

Also, the common combination of steel wheels with big, heavy mud tires often reduces the speed of your quad. Consider getting lightweight aluminum rims and good-performance tires to speed up your Renegade. Choose the right tire size for your playground or pastime.
